Sarah's Key

Sarah's Key

I’ve just finished reading Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay published in 2007. I just discovered that there’s also a movie of the same name starring Kristin Scott Thomas scheduled for release on July 22nd. Now that I’ve read the book, I am anxious to see the movie. Part of the book takes place in 1942 France during WW II and another part takes place in the present time.

The initial story concerns a Jewish family sent to a concentration camp during the occupation of France by the Germans. Sixty years later, an American journalist decides to investigate the roundup of the Jews and how the people of France participated. As the investigation progresses, it not only reveals Sarah’s ordeal and that of her family, but it also affects the journalist’s life in unexpected ways. It’s not just a sad story about the horror of the holocaust, but also about family loyalty and love.
